a psychological diagnosis.
Contact the Texas Department of Public Safety for additional information.

What are the requirements for obtaining a License To Carry?

The License To Carry A Handgun Law sets out the eligibility criteria that must be met. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age (unless active duty military) and must meet Federal qualifications to purchase a handgun.  A number of factors may make you ineligible to obtain a license, such as felony convictions and some misdemeanor convictions, including charges that resulted in probation or deferred adjudication; pending criminal charges; chemical or alcohol dependency; certain types of psychological diagnoses protective or restraining orders, and defaults on state or city taxes, governmental fees, or child support.  Eligibility requirements can be found in GC §411.172.
You must also submit a completed application, pay the required fees and submit all of the required supplemental forms and materials.

Can I legally carry in public upon completing the course?

As of 1Sep 2021, You can carry a concealed firearm in public without a LTC under Texas Constitutional Carry.

My LTC has expired, and my renewal application is in process. Can I carry a handgun while I am waiting to receive my new license?

As of 1 Sep 2021. It's not required to have a valid license in your possession to carry a concealed handgun under Constitutional Carry.

Can an LTC holder have a handgun in their personal vehicle in a school parking lot?

A license holder is not prohibited from having a handgun in his or her vehicle in a school parking lot. (School employees should know and comply with their employer’s policy on this point.) However, it is a criminal offense for any person who is on school property to exhibit, use, or threaten to exhibit or use a firearm. See Texas Education Code 37.125(a).

Do police officers have the right to disarm me?

Yes. If law enforcement or a peace officer reasonably believes a safety risk exists, the officer may disarm you.

Can I carry my gun in my car on the passenger seat?

Texas law allows the transport of a firearm in a motor vehicle or watercraft. However, a person must have a license to carry a handgun (LTC) if they want to have their handgun in plain view (i.e., on the passenger seat) it must be in a shoulder or belt holster. If you don’t have an LTC, your firearm must be concealed out of plain view and you must not be involved in criminal activities

What's the purpose of LTC when you have Constitutional Carry?

A LTC holder benefit with a second valid identification card, reciprocity in states that honor Texas LTC, eliminates additional background checks when purchasing a firearm in the state of Texas, and understanding the law and training ( selective trainers)  in a class room environment.
